Upon its foundation in 1992 the Company adopted and has since then been undertaking the improvement by breeding of the Hortobágy white goose and the Hortobágy Peking duck, established and bred in the Hortobágy region since 1971.

The method of improvement in the case of both breeds is pure-bred breeding based on elite groups.

Categorization of breeds: pure-bred, domestic, protected.

Hortobágy white goose:
Breed recognised by the State since1983.

In accordance with Act CXIV of 1993 on live stock farming and the stipulations of the decrees pertaining to the execution thereof, the recognition has been renewed by the competent ministry several times, recently by its resolution no. 13.496/2004 of the FVM [Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development].

Pursuant to resolution no. 76397/2006 of the FVM, the recognised breeding organisation of the breed is the Hortobágyi Lúdtenyészto ZRt.

The performance testings carried out at the Sükösd Performance Testing Station of the OMMI [National Institute for Agricultural Quality Control], and the most important production parameters achieved based on plant experiences, under semi-intensive rearing conditions:

  • Egg production: 40-50 pcs, depending on generation, in traditional spring cycle
  • Hatching options: projected to 76-78 % eggs placed in incubator
  • Liveweight at 56 days: 4,250-4,500 g
  • Liveweight at 14 weeks: 5,200-5,500 g
  • Feed utilisation: 2,750-2,800 g / liveweight kg
  • Liveweight at 28 weeks: 6,000-6,500 g (corn goose plucked three times)

Hortobágy Peking duck:
Breed recognised by the State since 1994.

  • Egg production: 140-145 pcs, in traditional spring cycle
  • Hatching options: projected to 76-78 % eggs placed in incubator
  • Liveweight at 49 days: 3,100-3,200 g
  • Feed utilisation: 3,000-3,100 g / liveweight kg
